Stock phone app crashing instantly

Hi,

Stock phone app keeps crashing for me on my 2 weeks old XZP.

Aa soon as I place a call I get "Phone keeps closing" with only choice "restart app"

Luckily I can end calls from the drop down menu otherwise I have no control over calls.

Answering calls is a lottery, usually the incoming call is stuck in the menu until I reboot the device.

The only app that I can think of that may interfere is evie launcher.

Also 4k res may be the reason. Anyone had similar problems?

Is there anyway I can export a log from phone app for debugging?

Are there any 3rd party substitute phone apps you can recommend so I can start using my XZP as a phone?

Thanks for your replies.

It crashes in safe mode too.

Yes! You were right, hi-res was the problem. It worked when I switched to default res.
Since I bought this phone for 4k res I will not accept that you can't make calls when you change to advertised 4k res.

Good tips, allthough your app still uses the same stock phone in background = unable to make calls.

It links to a patched ..android.dialer_5.1 which works. Yaay!
I noticed that it crashes when you block/blacklist a number but that's ok, the number is blocked after app restart. I can live with that.

@FatCash

Do you experience the same on >>> safe mode ?

Most, not all, stock apps are not very good on any phone.

Try ZENUI Dialer from the play store.  I think it is great and have used it on the last few phones I have owned.

Then apply this theme. Great stuff!

I suspect that forced 4K resolution might be a possible cause issue. the phone app might not expect 4K resolution which could lead to crashes. can you revert to default resolution and see if the issue persists?

I'm fairly sure that it was advertised that you can watch videos in 4K, not make phone calls Winking_Face

I faced the same issue with stock phone app keep crashing ... This is due to forcing to 4K ... Changing the display resolution to 2K . (1440x2560) solved the problem
