Open up a VGN-A197VP

Yesterday my LCD-screen flickered and died and I suspect a loose cable or something between the
graphics card and the screen.

But I can't figure out a way to open up my VGN-A197VP without possibly trash something.
Is there a howto or manual somewhere I can use?

And I wonder if there is any search-function in this forum?

Hi bosse2,

It is probably the Inverter. Can you see the image on the screen if you use a torch? If nyou scroll down to the 17 inch screen on this site it is shown as part 1019

I'm afraid the search option is broken - see this post for the workaround: -

I attach the generic .PDF manual for the A-Series Vaios. I don't know if it helps or not???

Thank you.

I don't know if this information helps me but I have a lot more to work
with now. I will chick it out in the near future.

Yes and no. It helped a bit but I'm stuck at the same place as before.

On page 5, Palmrest, picture 4. I simply can't lift the palmrest. There
is something stuck close to the LCD-screen when I try to lift the
palmrest. The three detents, I guess. But how do I do to get them to
let go?

I manage to lift the palmrest 3-4 centimeters in the back but then I stuck
as I mentioned abowe.

I managed to remove the palmrest.

I have (at least) one more question. The inverter mentioned earlier, do you belive it be broken or just need to be reconnected?

Hi bosse2,

Difficult to say. Usually they break and need replacement but it is possible that there is a poor connection or a broken wire (particularly where the wire goes through the hinge).

I've now managed to open up my laptop. No cable is disconnected. When I turned the laptop on the screen flickered and showed me parts of the boot sequence. Then it went dead. I pulled in various wires but I didn't manage to get another flicker. So I believe the cables are ok.

If the inverter is broken, is it a common practice for it to flicker or does it just die?
