How do I get rid of doubled up books on my reader?

Hi

I recently had to have a new hard drive installed but they managed to save my ebooks. When I synced my PRS-300 it doubled up books on the reader. I tried to delete the doubles off the reader but it kept saying I had to delete them in the library. The library only shows one copy!

Library shows 173 books but reader shows 289

What can I do?

Thanks

I don't understand how it happened but I just posted the answer to your problem elsewhere. Here is the answer:

I also had the same problem and I think I found the solution. At least it worked for me. I have the PRS-600 and keep all my e-books on the SD card. I noticed that when re-syncing the books would double on the card. So, I removed the card from the reader and inserted it in the SD slot of the computer. I manually deleted all the books on the card (you can find them somewhere in a 'books' folder). Then I started the software Reader Library and did the syncing to the card. After all finished I put the card back in the reader and 'voila', it worked just fine. Apparently, re-syncing doesn't work the way it shoud. It actually re-copies the books to the reader/SD card.

Hi there

I seem to have a similar problem, as you say for some reason, the books get doubled up on synch.  Once they have been synched it appears that they cannot be deleted.

It seems a really stupid issue and Sony need to correct it.

I have the same problem with my PRS-505 and I do wish that Sony would sort it out.

The first time it happened I manually deleted the duplicates directly from the Reader which is a very slow and tedious process as you have to open each book and delete it individually.  All was ok for a while.

It's now happened again.  Once more I deleted over 100 duplicate books from my Reader, but as soon as I connected to my PC it Synchronised and put all the duplicates back. Now when I connect to the PC it either tells me that it can't synchronise because the reader is out of memory space or comes up with all sorts of error messages (such as 'invalid type', whatever that means). At the moment it's just hanging.

Resetting the Reader makes no difference.

I now plan to disconnect the Reader (even though it tells me 'Do not Disconnect', I don't think I have much choice) then move everything out of the Reader Library, then try connecting and Syncing again.

If that doesn't work I may just chuck it in the bin and buy a Kindle.

Update:

Moving everything out of the Reader Library, syncing then moving stuff back worked but I'm still getting error messages, it's not happy...   Does anyone else get an 'invalid type' error message?

HOW DID YOU DELETE THE BOOKS.  IHAD TO SEND MY E-READER FOR REPAIR, AND WHEN IT CAME BACK THE BOOKS WERE THERE BUT UNREADABLE, AND I GET THE NO ENTRY SIGN. I CANNOT FIND ANY INSTRUCTIONS ON DELETING.
