Morning All,
I have posted this on another thread which asks a similar (but not the same) question. I've realised it's in the Z Ultra forum so I hope no-one minds me re-posting in this forum?
I've just indentified a problem which is costing me ££££££.
I'm sending group text messages from my Z1 Compact which are automatically converting to MMS but this is only happening from 25 Sept 2015
Now I certainly don't recall changing any settings but can see that MESSAGING > SETTINGS > GROUP CONVERSATIONS is set to ON. Is anyone aware of an update which has caused this?
Secondly, as I've now switched it to OFF will this prevent the convertions?
Thirdly, is there any way I can see before I press SEND if the message is SMS or MMS?
And lastly, is there any reason for a setting that converts all group text messages to MMS?
Thanks in anticipation
Paul

@traveller_cz If the message goes over the character limit for one SMS it will be counted as 2 SMS and the Messaging app will show this:
If you are using the preloaded messaging app and the message is longer than 160 characters w/o special characters it will be sent as a MMS
Hi,
Group Conversations were previously turned off by default but was set to on in a recent software update.
If Group Conversations is set to on the message will be converted into an MMS when you send it. This will allow all members of the group conversation to receive replies from each other.
If you disable this setting you will simply send the same message as an SMS to every contact you add but only you will receive replies.
When you start writing a message after adding the contacts you wish to send it to you should be able to see what type of message it will be sent as to the left of the send icon when you hold the phone upright.
Many thanks Christofer for confirming my thought that it an update has changed the settings & also for an explanation as to the benefit of the Group Conversation.
I do think it extremely poor of Sony to send an update which costs people money unknowingly - in my case £36.00
As regards to the type of message about to be sent - I still cannot see any indication where you say it wil be & I've attcahed a screenshot to illustrate
The message type only shows if the message will be sent as two or more SMS, or an MMS. In other words, anything but a single SMS.
As an example, if I have Group Conversations set to On and start writing a message to two or more contacts it will look like this:
Sorry that I didn't point this out in my previous reply.
Are you saying that if the message is longer than 160 characters it is sent as MMS? So it means that SONY does not know how to send long SMS messages? This would be a big prblem for me because I use company SIM card and MMS are forbiden.
@traveller_cz If the message goes over the character limit for one SMS it will be counted as 2 SMS and the Messaging app will show this:
Christofer - I've just replicated your actions & it does tell me MMS - thank you once again
Paul
So if a text message shows as 2 sms, does this mean it will go as an mms or just 2 seoarate ordinary text messages, thanks
