Bluetooth does not automatically pair with car audio system

I'm having a problem with automatically connecting to my car's handsfree system, I have to go to bluetooth settings every time to get it to connect. Connecting manually works ok though but is very tedious in the long run and not how bluetooth should work to my understanding.

Does anyone know if this a bug or some feature I'm missing?

The car is a 2013 Subaru Impreza.

So I did figure this out eventually.. basically there's two ways to remove previous devices (on the car's side) one is to just select the device and then delete it and the other one is to do full wipe by going to setup -> initialize. Apparently the system just needed a fresh start..

Thanks!

Have you tried to unpair then pairing again?

Yeah, it also does not connect if I have car running and then switch BT on on the phone. Installing one of the "bluetooth autopairing" programs from the app store fixes that but obviously not the full-on automatic pairing.

Have you received the latest bug fixing firmware?

I don't have access to any Subaru so that i can test this myself but i've tested with different bluetooth headsets and the phone connects fine for me.

If you've been out of range with the phone and come back it might take while for them to reconnect automatically but if you press the answering button in your car they should connect. Do you get a connection when pressing the answering button in the car or do you need to reconnect from the phone?

Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately, no luck so far.

Hitting the answer button in the car just results in "Could not place the call, please check your phone" message. I also tested whether the phone was just slow to pair with the car so I left it untouched during the drive to work this morning and it never paired up (30 min drive).

So yeah, only way to connect it is to do Quick settings -> hold Bluetooth -> Bluetooth and then tap the Car m_media device.

Manual connection works perfectly, I have both Phone audio and Media audio selected and both music/phone work as expected afterwards.

Running the latest (17.1.A.2.55) build.

I'll add to that. Apparently this is something to do with the factory head unit. I have a 2013 Wrx and I just experienced it today. But this will really bake your noodle. It has something to do with the phone too. I just got a Z3 and it's all screwed up. What's the kicker is that my iPhone never had an issue, auto connected all the time. Anyways I would like the answer to all this too please

I have a 2012 impreza and am having the same issue. I only deleted my old phone which has worked for swapping between my and my husband' s old phone. I will see if the initialize thing works. I am really tired of manually connecting every time I get in the car. Enough to consider returning the phone.

I just sat and messed with it in the car. I have no initialize option in the setup menu. I tried deleting and re-pairing. No good. I have to either select the phone on the car system or select the car on the handset and tell it to connect. Half the time it only connects audio, even though I have both audio and phone checked in Bluetooth settings on handset.
