A letter to Sony developers

So it's been almost two months since the release of the XZ Premium and let's stop kidding ourselves, the device has had nothing but security patch updates.

From all my previous Xperia flagship devices, I remember the Z5 Premium received much more attention that the latter.

Samsung release several firmware updates the first was 3 weeks after launch, most of them containing bug fixes from major to the silliest pink tint that was corrected using color calibration

Oneplus5 that was released at the same time the XZP was out, received also several fixes on the 28th of June.including the Wireless dropout and poor performace mentioned on this forum

LG G6 released few weeks ago a firmware update that only said " Brings several improvements and bug fixes " without going into detail but it fixed obviously something.

And the list goes on. Now I have the device since 7 weeks and all we have is two security patch... really ?

I really want to believe that the device is bug free and I don't think the R&D at SONY is on vacation mode but it's far from reality. The device is excellent but just like any other device, it has bugs. Some of them are critical ( let's not start with the camera distortion or weak wireless reception) and some of them are just annoyance.

As the last update was few days ago, I don't see any update coming before the next month and I'm not sure that it will bring any fix whatsoever other than the security patch nobody gives a d... about...

Is it normal that a flagship device doesn't receive updates ( as i don't consider security patches end-user updates) in 3 months knowing that SONY has a history of releasing flagship devices every couple of months ?

Are we going to receive an update maybe when a new device shows up ?

I've always considered SONY as one of the manufacturers who have fast and long term support for its devices but my experience with the XZP is far from my expectations.....

I work in a fortune 100 telecom company ( 100k+ employees) and our R&D is mainly in India, Poland and Czech Republic....

Im pretty sure Sony has multiple locations for their development departments. I mean I hope so....

I agree, it's just a major disappointment. Never felt that ignored when buying a flagship device. I'm still waiting on Vodafone to decide whether or not the bugs qualify for a late return. This is one big joke.

it's summer now, and people in Swedish like taking long vacation, so there's probably only essential stuff at Sony right now. see #3 here https://www.thelocal.se/20160802/five-things-about-the-swedish-summer-that-confuse-newcomers

Nope, sony has software division only in sweden. Please note entire team is less than 20 people Slightly_smiling_Face

I was saying it many times, this is the most abandoned phone in terms of software updates sony ever released. Security patches doesn't count sincebit is only a copy paste work of what google sends, not bg fixes for specific device like xz premium (distortion, wifi, double tap to wake etc.). In addition, considering the major software flops commonly known on this form I really doubt sony has any kind of quality control and hires QAs.

I lost faith to this company because of this treatment for so called "flagship".

I feel for all of those who are having real issues. I am not having them. My camera even takes good photos. My only issue has been the low volume which I have been able to remedy very well with a free app from the play store. You can also get the exact same app for a donation of $0.99

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.omegacentauri.SpeakerBoost&hl=en

Keep in mind the app has ZERO ads... as in NONE, NaDa...

I chose to donate.

What though about those Sony employees who are responsible to fix these bugs that so many are experiencing? Is this forum of any help in this area? Are there people who are taking note of these issues, or are we really being abandoned here? Will not anyone reply and put us at ease here?

It's a waste of your time. For Sony at the end are the customers. You have to buy expensive phone the rest do not care you. XperiaXZ premium headphones I can not see until today. It took several months from pre-order.
