I always have Ring Volume to the highest. I have noticed on many occasions that after using a variety of apps, playing a game when I check the Ring Volume is set to its minimum. I go through and try toreplicate apps that I have used and cannot trigger it. It just seems to happen spontaneously. I have missed some phone calls because of this.

Strangely enough I did boot into safe mode and it did update despite what you said and sure enough the volume again went down. When I re-booted into normal mode the ring tone volume was just going down constantly irrespective of no activity. I then uninstalled the Megasound app that I suspected was the problem and everything for the moment is fine.
I got into trouble initially when I set the default notification to a particular media file I usuallly use as a ring tone. Then every notification souinded like a call. I have now set the default notification sound to nothing and everything is fine. But I am surprised the Android OS itself cannot set the notification sound of each app. This seems to be internal to each app. And if an app does not have a way to change the notification sound then bad luck. At least the Windows phone OS has that ability within the OS to individually set the sound for each and every app whether the app does or not. I guess I was spoiled by this flexibility. I assumed Android had that ability as well and was wrong. I will let you know if there is any recurrence of the problem in the next week. If not I will then close this thread.
make sure that you are not turning down the notification volume instead of the media volume while playing games.
Definitely not happening. There was the last sessionI noticed this. I used ma ny apps and checked many settings of the phone. At the very beginning I checked the Ring Volume and it was set to its maximum setting. And without once having touched the Volume up or down button during the session, I again checked the Ring Volume setting at the end and found it to be set to its minimum. Have noticed this on a number of occasions.
In fact just now I was holding the phone and was carrying out a Manual Backup to my google account and I felt the phone vibrate when there were no notifications and I was not touching either the screen nor any buttons and sure enough I checked the Ringer Volume and it was down to the minimum. Why does it spontaneously do this?
Someone else suggested with a different phone and OS Version to turn off "Increasing ringtone". I have tried this and at least for a day have not had this problem recur. I will let you know if this situation continues. I have not removed any app.
Turning off "Increasing ringtone" was not the answer. It was still happening. Will let you kn ow of any further insights.
It seems tohappen when an app update is installing or installed. On two occasions when I was manually updating an app I felt the phone vibrate and checked the volume and sure enough the volume went down of its own accord. When I turned it up it was turned down again. Has anybody else noticed this.
Hi @TheFly
This could be caused by a third party application having strange interractions with the OS. Because this only happens when you install and update apps it's going to be difficult to troubleshoot.
Normally I would recommend that you test the phone in safemode, but you will not be able to install apps while it's in safe mode.
I suggest you back up your phone and then run a software repair with Xperia Companion.

Yes the Megasound app seemed to have been the culprit. But the advice I was given on this seemed to have been wrong as to safe mode and updating apps and also it seems that some pps can have some influence even in safe mode. The phone has been behaving. Thanks anyway for the help.
