windows vista gets to welcome page then dies

hi i have a fz31s with windows vista home basic when i start it it gets to the welcome page then screen goes black you can still see cursor.I have tried starting in safe mode ,done system restore and vaio diagnostics still no success.Any ideas .Thanks

Sounds like the problem accurs when Windows starts to load the user profile, Device Drivers and the Windows Services. Have you installed any new drivers or updated any drivers recently? Have you had any previous problems with Explorer.EXE crashing and the desktop screen not appearing?

I'm not sure if you are saying you can open Windows in Safe Mode? Safe mode uses the absolute basic drivers and services required. If you can, look in the Event Viewer for errors under the 'System' Tab.

If you can't open under Safe Mode then you will need to consider a Repair Installation using a Vista Install Disc or as a last resort a full System Rescovery back to factory settings using your Recovery Discs.
