ViewSonic VX2260WM monitor no sound

I have connected my new viewsonic monitor with an HDMI cable to my FZ31S have a picture but no sound. Also if I set the monitor resolution to 1920x1080 the desktop doesn't fit. I am not particularly technical so if there are straightforward step by step ways of remedying these problems I'd be grateful for any help. Thanks

Hi buck2 and welcome.

Have you tried switching the sound output from laptop speakers to digital output?

Right-Click on the Volume Icon in the Notification Area next to the clock - bottom right. Select Playback Devices and set the 'SPDIF/HDMI' output to be the default.

Blencogo - Thanks for your prompt response. I did what you suggested I selected the item which said " DIGITAL OUTPUT DEVICE (HDMI) Sigma Tel High Definition Audio Codec Working" still no sound!
