VAIO VGN-FZ18E UPGRADE

Hi i am looking to find out wether it is possible to upgrade the vaio vgn-fz18e from a regular DVD player with HD output to a Blueray player , i know most people will say just get a new laptop but the one i have now is only a year old and i have no problems with it , all i want to do is add a blueray player to it , is it just a simple case of buying a blueray cd dvd drive and adding it , and if so where could i purchase one, Thanks alot OCSBOY!

Hi OCSBOY and welcome to Club Vaio.

It will be an expensive upgrade if you want a BD writer. The UJ220B fitted to the FZ31Z costs about $400

The UJ120B BD Player only fitted to the FZ21M is a better choice if you can find it!!

Quite honestly, you may be better off looking at an external Blu-Ray drive.

I was wondering if sony would offer an upgrade that would actually fit the contours of the laptops

Hi thanks for that info , its a shame it will cost so much to upgrade , im not interested in being able to write blue ray discs just want to be able to watch blueray movies , The laptop i have now cost a few quid and i am very supprised it didnt come with blueray already built in especially since its set up for full HD 1080 , As for the blueray external drives do you know what prices they are selling at because if the price is expensive i may aswell buy a blueray player! thanks OCSBOY
