I have a Sony VGN-FZ11S laptop which I bought last August. Vaio Update has always worked fine however, the screen backlight sometimes refused to work and I sent it back to Sony for repair. It has returned today with a list of repairs including the Main Board being replaced.
As I'd recovered the computer before sending it to Sony, I started to get things back to normal on it, getting everything updated. Windows Vista updated fine and I then went to the Vaio Update and it just keeps coming up with this message: "Your model information could not be found on the server. Please try again later. (MessageID=0008)"
I looked on the Vaio website and saw there was an update to Vaio Update so I downloaded and installed that but it didn't make any difference. I then recovered my computer again but it still keeps coming up with the same message. I've restarted my computer and even my router but nothing seems to make it work.
It's the same laptop I had before, just a new main board and screen hinge. What could be wrong?
please could you let me know that everything is ok once your vaio has been returned..
Will do.
The guy at Sony said he'd put it on a priority case so hopefully it won't be too long.
Hi Izak,
has your BIOS problem been fixed.?

My laptop hasn't come back yet, it was taken last Friday so hopefully will be back soon.
Sony sent a box with the driver and he packed the laptop up himself in his van so I cannot do anything about it.

That doesn't sound very good, how do you know when he put your Vaio into the box, surely he should pack the Vaio on your property..
He did the second time he picked the computer up (it was the same guy) but the first time he seemed in a bit of a rush. He said, I've got the box in the van and took the laptop from me.

Did you mention to the driver about the scratches.?
Good news is, the laptop arrived back this morning and seems to be working fine. It's doing all the updates at the moment. The BIOS problem had been fixed and the Vaio Update works fine!

Thanks for all your replies regarding the problem.
Had a bit of a worry at one point this afternoon though while updating the laptop. Vaio Update worked fine at first and had updated quite a few things. Once the computer had restarted following all the updates, I went back into Vaio Update only to get the same error message as before "Your model information cannot be found on the server", it was a bit of a shock as I thought "Oh no, it's going to have to go back again!" But then I remembered about the bug in the software and the patch that has been released. I went on the Support website and downloaded and installed the patch. Vaio Update now works fine.
Just a bit strange as to why it all worked first time round without the patch then the second time refused to start.
Anyway, everything is working fine now. Slowly getting everything back on the system. That's going to take a while!!
Sadly though it hasn't been all good news today. I went on my Xbox 360 this evening only to be greeted by the "Red Ring of Death"!! So that's got to go back for repair now!!
