graphics card size

Hi all just wondering if anybody knows why my graphics card spec says 128 MB but nvidia website says 512 MB i have a VAIO VGN-NR21Z/T laptop and the card is a GeForce 8400M GT GPU.Link below for nvidia web site thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Neno and welcome.

Your link says MAXIMUM memory 512MB.

nVidia make the 8400M GT in several versions - 64MB, 128MB, 256MB & 512MB.

Sony have put the 128MB version in your model.

Ok thank you,do you know if i can add more memory or do i need a new card to increase memory size.

Hi Neno,

I'm afraid you can't do either.

Like most laptops, the graphics chip cannot be upgraded as it is integrated into the motherboard.

You can't add or increase the dedicated memory but this should not matter in Vista as the WDDM feature will allocate any additional memory requirement from RAM automatically.
