USB device not recognised

Hi

Every time I start up or come back from hibernate/sleep modes, I get an error box stating USB device not recognised, event when there is no USB device fitted - not even a mouse or printer. None of the USB ports is in use and I still get the message and an icon bottom right in the taskbar. It says unknown device on the roothub ...

Any ideas? I run Vista Home Premium on a Vaio VGN AR31M with SP 1 installed.

Hi Jeraldo,

It is usually the Media Centre Remote control.

There was a hotfix for this but I presume this should have been built into SP1. May be worth a try though: -

There is a Registry Fix down the page a bit!

Hi Blencogo

Remiss of me not to have thanked you some time ago. The registry fix worked it OK and I don't get the message now.

What a star you are!

From my experience the registry fix works for only one re-start/sleep/hibernation cycle, thereafter the device (eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR)) is not recognized until after a shutdown and restart.

Does anyone else have the same problem
