Strange sound on the left side

hi everyone
i'm from belgium so i try to tell you in english my problem
i buy a FS115B since 4 days, and i want to know is it normal, i hear a sound like from the dvdplayer or the hard disk, every 3 or 4 minutes, it's on the left side of the notebook, it seems like the optical drive when he's back after the eject of the disc, but there's no disc inside, can you tell me if it's normal or do i need to hear nothing??
it's very diificult to explain it but maybe you can tell me more..Thanks a lot
(i can record the noise to put it..)

I do understand what you talked about, I own FS115S

Sometime it produces some kind of noise, it seems to change or move itself, some kind of machanic part, don't worry, it's very normal and we can hear it only in silent enviorment

hi, thanks for response, now i know that this noise comes from the hard disk, but every 3 or 4 minutes, like a mechanical noise, i never heard it on my desktop, with a 3'5 hard disc..do you have the same?

Well the same happens on my K115B, and it is normal. It protects the hard disk drive in your computer from accidental knocks whilst it is online.

As soon as you start playing music or using a hard disk intensive program, the clicking will stop.

The hard disk is simply parking its read/write heads on your computer to prevent damage. It may be a little over-zealous but at least you know your hard disk will be OK.

It's a very good measure to save you wrecking a hard disk by accident.

Another thing I like about IBM TravelStar disks is that in the event of a power failure, the disks will use the energy from the spindle to move the heads to safety.
