Sony Vaio VGN-AW11Z/B sound problem

Hi guys,

I just bought a sony vgn-aw11z/b, but i realized when i put the volume up during watching a movie or listening to music, there is a kinda vibration or cracking. I dont know exactly where the noise is coming from...but it could be the some keys of the keyboard shaking. Does anyone have similar problems?

Thanks for your help

Welcome.
It could possible be a speaker problem. If it's new I would see what the retailer has to say about it. Then maybe Sony Support.

Just to make sure it's hardware thats cracking, do you get the same noises on headphones?

I bought my AW11SB laptop in December and have the same problem with the sound. Sometimes it will play normally, but mostly it crackles and ofton can't be heard because of distortion.

I dont get that cracking with the headphones. I think its a hardware problem, because when i put it on maximum volume there will be a crackling when some bass is coming. therefore i think its either the keyboard our the speakers itsself.

I went to my retailer today and he said i shud call up sony. but sony was telling me they wont gave me a replacement only repair it. The laptop is not older than 6 days, so i cant see the point why they are not replacing it.
However, the shop i was buying off the laptop offered me an refund, but because i got the laptop to a low price i wont be able to get the same laptop.

I just think its ridiculous that sony is not replacing a product which seems to be faulty from the beginning.

Try and deal with the shop if possible, sony's service from what I can see on other threads, is extreemly poor.

It's a recession. Most shops will be willing to haggle.
Get the refund and ask them what they are willing to do as they WILL offer you something.
Tell them Dixons or whoever have the same laptop at the same price and you'll get it there.
It's unlikely they'll let you walk out of the shop and if they do, just go somewhere else, there's pleanty of offers out there.

But number one is the laptop is faulty (probably just a loose screw but it's something you'll always hold a grudge against if you keep it) so get your refund and go from there!

Finally I decided to send it back to Sony for a repair as I thought its only a minor problem with the sound and they could fix it really quickly. Unfortunately it took sony two weeks to repair the unit and during the repair procedure sony staff called me several times to tell me there isnt any fault with the sound, however I insists on them to check it once more. I waited two days after calling them back and suddenly there was a sound problem and they are arranging to change the speakers. Besides of that some of the staff are really rude but I was thinking as long as they repair my laptop i am happy. But after receiving my laptop the sound was even more worse than before and I dont know what their 'highly skilled engineers' did. I am really dissapointed with the sony service. I mean it is ok that a product is faulty it can happen, but when a customer gives you the opportunity to repair it how can they not take advantage of it. I usually perceive sony with high quality, striving for perfection but it seems i was wrong. However I send an email to koji Mizuno the head of vaio service in europe and hope he can give me an answer. By the way they gave me a complimentary gift which was a spare cleaning cloth - what should i say
