Hi, When I disconnect my Netgear router from the mains for a sec then plug it back in and try to connect my laptop again it doesn't connect properly It says its connected but I keep getting page cannot be displayed.
It doesn't happen all the time, sometimes it starts working after a minute of refreshing the web page.
One time the connection just dropped automatically but I could reconnect ok, luckily I wasn't half through a download.
Just today when I unplugged the router then plugged it back on the laptop connected but it said something like "connected with limited access" or something like that and I couldn't connect to a page so I had to connect via ethernet an try it later on.
any ideas why?
Sounds like your router is having problems logging onto the service providers server to give you internet connection. the initial connection message you see is probably your WiFi connection being established to the router. It could be as simple as allowing more time for the router to logon to the service providers server but I have had similar problems in the past with a Netgear router supplied by Sky. Make sure you have the latest firmware for your router. If using Sky they have their own special version and update automatically overnight as long as you have not changed the router password. If Sky, the Sky support site will tell you the latest firmware version number which can be checked by logging onto your router homepage in an internet window (see the manual). It is worth logging onto your routers home page and checking the 'status' page as this will tell you if the internet connection is down. You can also reboot your router from these pages without having to leave your seat - I find the 'hard' reboot more successful. A call to their support should trigger an update or they will email you the firmware file but note you will need to go back to the default password before Sky will be able to download and action the update automatically. Since I have received the latest 'Sky' Netgear Firmware my conection has been far more stable though I still get the occaisional problem.
