Hello All,
Santa was very good to me this year and bought me a Sony Vaio VGN NR38E.
I'm having great fun learning and exploring this great bit of kit.
What I want to do now is connect it to my Philips plasma tv to watch streamed
movies etc.
I see that I only have a VGA out on my Vaio, and the connections on my TV
are as follows :
2 x HDMI ( 19 pin HDMI Type A )
2 x SCART ( 21 PIN SCART )
1 x component video input ( RCA phono x 3 )
2 x audio line-in ( RCA phono x 2 )
1 x SPDIF output ( RCA phono )
1 x headphones ( mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm )
1 x composite video/audio input ( RCA phono x 3 )
1 x S-Video input ( 4 PIN mini-DIN )
Now just need the advise on which cables to use for picture & sound!
Any help would be greatly appreciated and am looking forward to being part of this group.
Pat
Hi Pat and welcome to Club Vaio.
The only way to get a video signal out of the NR-Series Vaios is through the VGA monitor output.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like your TV has a PC (VGA) input, so a direct connection is not possible.
You are going to need a VGA to AV/S-Video device - something like these: -

Hello and thanks for the welcome.
I am looking at this one that you added:

Can I ask, does this deal with the sound as well as vision?
Or do I need seperate cables for sound?
Many thanks. Pat
Hi Pat,
You will almost certainly need a separate cable for the sound - a 3.5mm stereo jack to 2 X RCA Phono - from the Vaio's headphone socket to the TV's audio line-in.
