How to stop Outlook launching on boot up?

I beleive this is a familiar problem with certain Vaio notebook users, in that when the O\S is launched (XP Pro) "Outlook" or "Outlook Express" automatically starts up.
There is no entry for either mail clients in MSconfig, or indeed in the "Start Up" folder.

Is there a way of preventing the above programs from launching at strtup?

I have even run the recovery discs and made a clean installation, but still Outlook Express continues to launch when the notebook has booted up.

Any help would be much appreciated.

There is no Outlook or msmin etc located in the "Startup" Folder.
In fact, I have downloaded a program call "Start up Control Panel" from Mike Lin's website, and even this does not find anything related to either email clients in any of the 'startup' locations. i.e in the registry 'HKCU/Run' - 'HKLM/Run' - in the Startup folders (User & Common).

So it's baffling how the program is launching!

I heard a rumour that this was something to do with the Vaio's Bios...

Still searching for clues..

Hi technik21 and welcome to Club Vaio.

What model Vaio do you have? Have you checked for any available BIOS Updates (some Vaios had a problem in the BIOS which caused the default e-mail client to open at startup).

Otherwise, any program loading at startup that tries to access Outlook's data will cause the Outlook application to open. Have a good look at what else loads automatically at startup that may use any Outlook data. Do you have a PDA or anything else that syncs with Outlook's calendar? Anything that uses your email address list?

Anything in Task Scheduler?

I can sympathise with your frustration.

Hello

Thanks for your reply.

The Model is VGN-A195EP

I actually by chance deleted and entry in "Windows\ATK0100\Hcontrol.exe", and this stopped Outlook from launching at boot up. Not sure what this was, but it did the job. Hopefully no impact on anything else.

I'm still curious why this happened by default, so maybe I still need to update the Bios?

Thanks again!
