Hi all,
My VGN-AW11ZB notebook is two days old. I find that the fan noise is constant regardless of the load, this annoys me when I am trying to read documents, etc. Annoying me to the point that I will consider returning this otherwise nice computer.
When monitoring the GPU temperature, I have noticed that the fan noise is the same regardless of the temperature, I can hear the same fan activity at a GPU temperature of 40 degrees (idle outside in the cold), or 60 degrees (inside under use). The Nvidia Monitor also reads a constant 196rpm (however I am not sure if I can trust these numbers).
I would say that this laptop does run quite cool during normal operation.
When loading the Nvidia Ntune of SpeedFan, I notice that I am unable to adjust any of the GPU fan speed settings.
Even when selecting the performance options in vista to reduce power consumption, (go from high performance to battery optimized) I am not able to hear any change in fan noise.
I installed the latest Nvidia drivers as instructed by the Sony Update page.
Questions
- Is it normal that I am hearing the same fan noise even when idling?
- Has anybody had any luck in reducing the fan noise from this system?
- Does anyone know the source of this noise, GPU and/or CPU fan?
Hope to hear from someone soon.
Thanks.
Anand.
