Connect at 108mbps?

Hi,

I've got the FW21E. I've also got the Netgear WGT624. The router is set to Auto 108. Yet my wifi on the laptop says it's connected at 54mbps. Is there a way to connect at 108mbps or will it just dynamically speed to 108?? Confused.
