Hello Folks
I have a Dlink 2740B ADSL router (wireless N) which connects to my desktop at 270mbps which has a Edimax wireless N card...so no problems there. However my Sony Vaio FZ31S (equipped with Intel 4965 AGN card) can only connect at 130 mbps, not at 270 mbps. According to Intel, the 4965 gives speeds of up to 300 mbps but only on the 5Ghz band (40 Mhz) The problem is that in Sony's wireless device menu, if i tick 5ghz option only then it doesn't find any networks and i cannot connect...i can either use 2.4 ghz on its own or select the 5 ghz with it but then i only get 130 mbps.
Has anyone managed to get wireless speeds > 130mbps using the Intel 4965AGN on their FZ series?
Thanks
Your router only supports 2.4 GHz wireless networks. So you are limited to the maximum 2.4 GHz speed of the Intel card.
5 GHz networks are rare outside the US.
Thanks for that blencogo. Yes it appears that my router has to support 5ghz to get 300mbps speeds on the Intel (the Dlink 2740B has only 2.4 ghz). But can i ask why my Edimax PCI card is able to give 270mbps speeds in the 2.4Ghz frequency (using 40 Mhz bands) yet they restricted the intel card to 5ghz for 300mbps?
Would i need to buy something like this when its released?

Thanks
Or you could try a DLink wireless N 2.4 MHz PCMCIA card like the D-Link DWA-642 or D-Link DWA-652.
However, at that price I would ask myself how often that speed is actually needed.
EDIT: Or as you like Edimax, they make a cardbus version also: -
