overheating while on charge

From day one my M2 (D2303) build 18.0.C.1.13 has been charging very slow while using it. At present it only keep the battery from discharging before it overheats and says charger is faulty then keeps charging while the battery goes down.  The only way to charge it while not in use eg. night as it seems to take ages. Does anyone else have this issue and is there a fix?

You may need to perform a software repair using PC companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.

Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).

Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable.

Are you using a Sony branded charger or 3rd party?  If it's not Sony branded I would try another charger.

Yes I use the Sony charger and cable that came with it during the day and if charging at night a old 500mah blackberry charger. I'm hopefully upgrading it to kitkat today and am I right in saying that will do a software rebuild as part of the upgrade.

I have to say the problem did lessen after the software update. Although it still gets rather hot while charging it or Internet turned on, it only overheats and locks up, when using it while charging on charge with a less than 1000mah (fast) charger.

Have tried the off button next to the sd & sim card slots? I've had to once or twice. It's a simple press and release.
