How to clear the Downloads folder?

This is my first day of owning an Xperia M2, and at least this far I have to say its been an interesting learning curve (having progressed from a BlackBerry Bold 9900).  Mostly the phone has been just fine and I hope this trend continues; however so far I have been unable to install neither whatsapp or BBM.

After thinking about it for a while, I've decided that since I haven't used either one for months, I won't bother trying to get them to work and was wondering if anyone could tell me how I can delete the files from the Downloads folder?  I cannot find a delete option there and since the apps haven't installed properly, I cannot uninstall them in the usual fashion.

Any help is most appreciated.

Thanks

Open your file manager app and locate the files however if you downloaded them from the Playstore then they shouldn't be saved on your phone as a .apk file however under security settings did you tick the box to allow installation of files from unknown sources and to delete you could open Settings then apps and swipe to All then locate and open said apps and tap on uninstall or from the apps menu tap the option key or swipe from left to right and tap on uninstall

Argh I feel like such an idiot, it was the security settings/unknown source tickbox that was stopping it installing.

Many thanks Thommo!
