Sony RDR-GX350 copied DVD-R disc not recognised anywhere else

Hello,

I bought a Sony RDR-GX350 22W HDMI 1080p DVD Recorder specifically to copy a Sky+ HD recording where I was on a TV quiz show onto a disc with the end goal of getting an MP4 copy to keep and share with my friend who I went on the show with.

I used Verbatim DVD-R discs and successfully copied the recording onto the discs which play back fine through the Sony DVD Recorder.

I purchased a Kadlun External Disk Reader with the aim of copying the digital version of the file onto my laptop. Unfortunately, I can't get the disc to be recognised there or in an Xbox One X. I am in communication with Kadlun to try and troubleshoot it with their measures, no luck so far. A purchased film DVD is recognised in it so the external drive isn't the issue.

I wondered if anyone more technically informed than me knows if for some reason the disc is only formatted to work in the Sony RDR-GX350 and will never be able to be read anywhere else or if there is a solution where I can get it to be read and copy the root file and get an MP4 or similar copy?

Appreciate any help on the matter

The discs on Sony recorder should be finalized on the recorder itself in order to be read on other devices... Did you finalize the disk?

Hi @ainsleyk   I have to agree with @rooobb . You have to finalise the disc, it takes me back to the last century with my old Sony DVD recorder.

Hi @rooobb really appreciate the response. I can't specifically remember on the finalisation front, I copied the disk Christmas 2023. I followed all the on screen prompts at the time to my knowledge. Do you know if it would have been an extra on screen prompt? I can't see why I would have not finalised at the time. I still retain access to the Sony recorder. Do you know if there are additional steps I can take to finalise it now? Kind regards

Hi @LightFoot, really appreciate the response. Tell me about it, it's a one off task for me too and the only way to get anything off a Sky HD Box so working through it as best I can. I can't specifically remember on the finalisation front, I copied the disk Christmas 2023. I followed all the on screen prompts at the time to my knowledge. Do you know if it would have been an extra on screen prompt? I can't see why I would have not finalised the disc at the time and passed up on the option. I still retain access to the Sony recorder. Do you know if there are additional steps I can take to finalise it now? Kind regards

Hi @ainsleyk   Hopefully, you will find everything you need to know in the manual. Page 37/38.

@ainsleyk as per the manual @LightFoot  kindly linked above, it is not a step asked by the recorder when recording the video, since you may want to add other videos to the same disk. Afterward you can go to the disk setup menu and finalize it so the it creates a DVD-like menu and structure and the disk can be played back on any other DVD player.

If you have still access to it, sure you can finalise the disk now
