So what is happening elsewhere then.........

Quote from a contributor on MobileRead, based in Oz .

" I'm not confident about the PRS-650 anymore. I have tried so many places  in the last few days and have had no luck. I contacted the Store in New  York where I purchased my first Sony PRS-600. I just received an answer  from them. "We have the Sony PRS650 readers listed as being  discontinued by Sony" This is the only direct answer that I have  received. All other emails have claimed that they are still waiting for  stock!! Who to believe? I don't know whether to look at another brand or  wait a bit more. "

Which is similar to a poster on this Forum a short while ago.................

Quick, get onto the News of The World.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your contributions to the Sony Europe Forum so far.

However this is a EUROPEAN forum. Therefore statements from the US have no value on this forum.

What their product strategy issue or official statement is on the lack of stock is their issue.

Here in Europe lack of stock is due to overwhelming demand thanks to the success of the PRS650.

We are working hard on getting production up to speed with demand but hopefully you will understand that with current supply issue in Japan (due to the earthquake/tsunami issues) it is unclear when we will be able to meet full demand for the PRS650.

We are getting stock in on a weekly basis, sadly enough currently not enough to meet high demand.

Kindest regards,

Nico

Oh, tweety/Nico, while glad to have another Sony voice on the Forum, your reply does, sadly, show the hitherto lack of interest Sony appears to have shown in this ("their" ) Forum .........................

"Sony Forum & Discussions is the place for Sony Electronics users from around the world to get help and help others. ........................... "     :slight_frown:

Please don't make statements that may mislead viewers or contributors.

There is even a tab to change country should you wish to be well informed, should you have a day or two to sort it out.

Anyway, it is, frankly, silly to say statements from the US have no value on this (worldwide) Forum. A lot of very useful information on ereading in general, as well as specific makes like Sony, come from there - especially sources for ebooks I haven't seen here.

Helpful tips and advice can come from anywhere, especially what can, and does, prove to be a confusing and technically tricky device such as the otherwise excellent PRS ranges. And the US has far more "user-experience" than we in the UK.

And the specific quote I gave was, as I explained, was from a contributor to MobileRead based in Australia, who saw the U.S. as a possible supply solution.

And if confusing statements, and experiences, come from any users, this is of interest to all the consumers that make Sony successful. Unless, of course, different markets are treated differently to others, which surely can't be so.

And you should be aware most of the problems I and others - whether it be UK, US, Australia, or anywhere - have raised were a constant topic of interest and comment on this, and other, ereader Forums well before the sad events in Japan.

And if you have read all my posts, yiou should know that I am interested in Sony basically being more caring of its customers, so you keep them, not lose them, and I hope to help others in any way I can.

And for the record, I have a PRS650, which, once past the hurdle of the awful software & set-up, I love - but then I am fortunate (here goes, kiss of death time ? ) that it has had no problems.

And I'm even thinking of a 350 -   and another as a present for someone.

Which model do you have, by the way ?

Thanks for contributing, Nico.
