I have been looking for an eReader, and SONY USA have the PRS-950SC available to their customers.
Hoping to purchase one from the US and either have it shipped over to the UK by family, or waiting till my next trip, I posed the question of suitablilty for use outside the USA to SONY customer support.

Please could you let me know if the PRS-950 reader is able to connect to the Internet via the built-in Wi-Fi whilst abroad in Europe?
I realise that the free 3G connection to AT&T will NOT work outside the US.

I am somewhat puzzled however, as I am sure you have other customers who venture out of the Continental United States, and I would think that some of them might have in their possession a Sony Reader.
Do you think therefore, it would be in your interest to find out if these customers will be able to buy books with the Reader when away from home? Or do you not envisage your customer as one who is likely to travel overseas and would want to bring along and read using your new product?
I thought my question was rather straightforward. Is it possible to connect to the internet using Wi-Fi whilst outside the US. Or do you suggest I purchase a Nook or an iPad?

While I'm sure that you can connect your Reader Daily Edition™ (PRS-950) to the Internet via its built-in Wi-Fi, I apologize if I'm unable to verify if this can also be done abroad (Europe). As I've checked our system, it shows that connecting to the Internet via Wi-Fi connection may only be available in US and Canada Region.

So not really any wiser - so I might just have to wait for the 950 to arrive in the UK!
Reading the manual online, it has a removable sim for 3G connection so maybe it's possible to fit a UK sim to use the 3G on a UK network?
