PRS650 sync still running!

I bought my first 650, 3 days ago and have just about sorted most of my learning curve problems out.... with the excption of getting the damn thing to sync reliably!

I have been waiting over 2 hours for it to transfer 1 book from Library to the Reader.

Having spoken to Waterstones (UK) support guys, I deleted the book and shut down the Reader. I deleted the book from the library and re-started the computer. Next, I turned all back on, and it was now trying to sync a non existant item.

How do I get a reliable move from Library to Reader?

I understand all about the 'Documentation' being far from complete, even to the point of calling it a waste of time reading it....

Any help appreciated..:smileycry:

I also have to get another one up and running for the wife.

She bought the same one Yesterday, :anguished:

Thanks for links. I have, I THINK, finally done the deed

I hit the 'reset' on the reader, formatted the memory. Un-installed the Reader software from the PC, then killed off all the residue records. Did not take long. (Only got 81 on before it gave up the first time!)

Having previously made a copy of the book list to the desktop, it was a couple of hours work to SLOWLY rebuild the reader. This time moving less than 20 titles at a time AND giving time for the Sync process to happen between batches!

I still have about 150 books to add, so proof of the pudding will be getting them on without lock ups etc.

I will report back here once completed.:smileyhappy:

Hi snapper27,

I must admit that with my prs650 I tend not to bother with the sync - instead I just drag and drop from Library to the Reader - it literally takes seconds to transfer a book this way and I have found this to be completely reliable.  Even if you're going to transfer quite a few books this can be done quite quickly (although it does require you to be in attendance  )

On the point of documentation (especially if you have another prs650 to set up for your wife!) try this link:

http://support.sony-europe.com/contacts/email/email.aspx?site=odw_en_GB

...type PRS-650 into the search box and you should find a PDF document in the list of results: - a getting started guide for the prs650 (& prs350).  This is a good step by step guide I found really useful and may help you.

Hope it goes well!

Thanks Drumzman.

It seems that I have now 'nailed' the problem, with one exception,

When I formatted the reader, it deleted the orignally supplied jpeg pics.

I have tried copy from my Wife's Reader, into a Reader Library. That bit was OK, but it seems you cant copy from the Library into another location on the PC or a pendrive.

Any ideas, if after putting a memory card in the top of the Wife's Reader, can you copy the jpegs to that? Then place the card into my Reader and copy back down?

Just a thought, as it would be nice to get back to 'original 'config once more.

Hi snapper27,

I think you are basically there - what I would do is connect your wife's Reader to your PC - click on the Reader icon in the left hand menu of the Reader Library software, so you can view all the files stored on it.  You should be able to see the original jpegs (Eiffel tower, Palm tree, and Snowy road).  Drag and drop these to the 'Library' icon in the left hand menu.  If you then click on this 'Library' icon you should see the jpegs in your Library - to be honest it sounds like you might have already done this, so forgive me for repeating if so.

Then what you need to do is disconnect your wife's Reader (do this by clicking on the little 'eject' button alongside the 'Reader' icon in the left hand menu).  You can then unplug it and re-connect your own Reader.  Make sure you are in the Library view so you can see the jpegs you copied, and now drag and drop these to the Reader icon (which is now your Reader of course) in the left hand menu.  That should be it!

Hope this works out for you - let me know!

Fantastic, it's back to the correct settings!

Thanks for your help Drumzman, and others.

I did find the PDF of how to use your 650 a bit 'holey' in places.

Lack of correct instruction as to where to find things etc. Buck up Sony, a good product let down as usual by poor documentation or translation! :slight_frown:

Like Drumzman, I only ever drag and drop from download  or zip ( or whatever format the book comes in -           sometimes having to "Open with containing folder, and dragging that) , into Library, wait for "Status" to show transfer complete, then drag and drop book title from Library to Reader, and wait till "Status" shows transfer complete again.

And there the book is, in your reader.

To be honest, I never even noticed/took notice of tanysync-ing business,  probably 'cos my son helped me sort the thing out to start with, and he never consults a manual etc.., but does it , well, "intuitively"  is a rather grand name for it. But the result usually ends up at the quickest/easiest way to do it. So the term sync never really came up - ought to find out more about it I suppose.

I DO know I use it on my MP3 transfers.............:smileycool:
