problems syncing new ebooks to reader

Hi I got the prs-350 for christmas and I am having a few problems syncing new ebooks to my reader!

I manage to import the files into my reader library no problem but whenever I try to sync them to my reader I have problems with it trying to resync all of my ebooks. It takes ages to sync any of them and then if I cancel it, it says transferred 0 of 44 files. However if I then unplug my reader all of my files are still there except the new ebook!!

Any help with this would be appreciated!!

Thanks

Hello

This may be too late for you as you posted in Jan 2011. But, hopefully, it is of some assistance.

Sony appear to have recently released new Reader software for both Mac and PC.

https://www.sony.co.uk/discussions/message/690244

I downloaded it yesterday (22nd Sept) and it works a treat!

My Mac now recognises my PRS300 (without the need to boot as 32bit) and the problem I was having with syncing that kept freezing is resolved. Good news!

The solution comes just in time for me to pass my PRS300 onto the wife when I get the new model reader on 19th Oct.

hope the above link helps.

Gavin

I seem to have a very similar problem. Reader also received for xmas. It seemed to sync fine at the start and I imported to the reader software and synced a bunch of ebook. Then it seemed to have a sync problem with a particular ebook and each time I tried it kept trying to sync the book and never finished. I have deleted the ebook that may have started the problem from the Reader itself and the reader database.

Now the reader seems to be completely blocked and now trying to sync other files that have already been synced  and the syncing doesn't stop. I have had no choice but to unplug the USB cable as there seems to be no way to stop the syncing process which blocks the reader.

I can't find a feature in reader software to stop the syncing process.

I have tried resetting etc but this hasn't worked. I am reluctant to reformat the reader as it is not clear from the help available whether/how it will work after the reformat. A reformat could eliminate the operating system/software needed to make it work and the instructions on this feature are so brief that they might as well not exist.

Help someone!!!! Please.

I have the PRS-650 and it will not stop synchronising.  The first few times I added more books it was OK but then something happened and it just never finishes.  I am at my wits end as it is really clever in so many ways but it is likely to be returned to SONY as not fit for use and I will buy a kindle!

Have spoken to sony and not a lotof helpso far.  i am running it on a iMAC:smileysad:

Ok I seem to have fixed my problem! the first thing I did was delete all of my books from my reader library and therefore my ereader, then I uninstalled reader library and then reinstalled it. Then I copied all my books back over into my reader library. This seems to have worked and even when I bought some new books and copied them to my ereader it worked straight away!!

Hopefully this has fixed the problem! (just wish it would fix my stylus issues as well!!)

BTW im also running this on an imac!!

OK but should one really have to go to all that bother? Of course not, it is a result of poor software.

My system "Syncs" continually and never allows me to disconnect my reader....I just have to pull the plug!

I tried deleting and reloading the software but the same problem continues.

HI,

Has anyone managed to sort the problem?

Mine worked fine, managed to put some books on but because it was syncing way too long I had to unplug it.

But now when I reconnect it,USB is not recognized even though on the ereader it says it is connected but don;t have a file in the library. Have loads of books I want to have on the go :slight_frown:

Also, I tryed uninstaling the library but it didn't work.

You can stop "Sync" by clicking on the x in the pale circle after the word "Sync" on the relevant line of your "Status" page. I could find nowhere where the inadequate Sony instructions tell you this!

Several of us appear to be badgering Sony about the inadequacies of the softwear but the Company seems impervious to reasonable requests.

Maybe we need to encourage journalists and product reviewers to start saying that Sony's softwear is unreliable and encourage potential purchasers to buy other products?

I had the same problem.

Tried all the suggestions.

Then just ignored the software and copied file over manually in Windows explorer.

All worked fine and faster than when it had worked previously.

Books available to view, just the same as via the software.

Just put them in the database\books folder on the ereader device ( mine came up as the H: drive - but it depends on how many drives you have installed)
