I can't seem to find much - if any - information about Google Books functionality on the PRS-T1. I assumed that it would become active when the Reader Store eventually opened in the UK, but the Google shortcut continues to divert to the Reader Store.
I've read elsewhere that Google Books functionality won't actually be coming to the PRS-T1, can an official source please confirm this and, if true, provide an explanation as to why advertised functionality is not actually available? I'll be inclined to return the device for a refund if this is the case because Google Books was a key selling point for me.
Thanks.
Well, I'm not anyone official, but have been wondering about this, and am still looking - but as far as I can see, it's no good blaming Sony, it's Google who seem to have shifted a few goalposts.
They may be thinking the market's not big enough to worry about - and they're up against it anyway, with Amazon's hold on the market, established international e-suppliers, in UK Waterstones and Smiths'Kobo, etc..., as well as loads of other sites offering free/reduced price s tuff and advice on how to get it, the big free sources like Gutenberg.
And there is the Reader Store now, and Google may have thought it wasn't desperately good marketting to share a market, of any size, when times is hard.
If I hear anything more I'll post, but it looks like you should be moaning at Google.
And it is only another shop, after all - how many do we need ?
Placed your post here & removed the new thread hope that's ok Carpetmojo..

Voice - had to post anew, I can't get anything more onto your thread,:smileyconfused: I hope this works....
Mmmmm.... I've been to the Google Books/Google Play site, ( don't think I'll be going there much, cheap it ain't ! ) and select My Books, then a title - I did Frankenstein - then "How to Read" , you're presented with :-
"eReaders and other devices
To read on e-ink devices like the Sony eReader or Barnes & Noble Nook, you'll need to download a file and transfer it to your device. Please follow the detailed Help center instructions to transfer the files to supported eReaders."
So there, for now, you go.....
Thanks Thalamus - I must have upset the gremlin in the works ! Never had that happen before....:smileyconfused:
No problem carpetmojo, I had a similar problem the other day but I found clicking on 'Use Advanced Editor' (see image Below) did the trick, make sure you copy what you have typed before clicking on Use Advanced Editor or you will have to start again..:smileywink:
I've just seen this on another Forum - sorry about the format, it's late and I'm lazy ! :smileyblush:
I don't know if the Google Books button on the T1 ever worked in the UK. However, in the US, it accessed the public domain books on Google and not the for-sale books. Google recently restructured their bookstore. Now, you have to download books (whether public domain or for-sale) through "Google Play" which is Google's new digital media store for books, music, videos and Android apps. Sony disabled the button on the T1 and eliminated the links to Google at their e-bookstore when Google Play went live. |

Finding the download button for ePub on Google has gotten a lot more labyrinthine since they switched, too. I about tore my hair out trying to figure out how to download a book I BOUGHT. |

I have the same problem (living in DK), even if Google books is not key functionality. I have a T2/WC model though.
