I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
To be honest I would rather have a fully functional Sony Bravia. I have a Nexus Player which works flawlessly, and the idea of having this combined with TV was what enticed me in the first place.
Shame - great panel but just too many bugs and poor comms from Sony.

As was explained to you in an earlier reply by Royabrown.... The screen shot you posted earlier shows a 21:9 cinema picture 'letterboxed' by the maker to fit a 16:9 television screen... This was done by whoever created the video; as is clearly evidenced by the fact the station's logo is clearly displayed in the correct position in the top-left hand side of the screen...
This is nothing to do with the TV set; which is displaying the picture correctly! - But if you do prefer the distorted view...
Directly below the "prog +/-" button on your remote control is a small button with an icon which looks like a screen with a cross on it... Press that! It will take you to the menu which adjusts how the set displays various aspect ratios.
Hello, I am using a Logitech K400 Plus wireless keyboard with my KDL-43W756 and it works well, however there is an annoying thing. Every time I click to type something, for example in the browser or the Youtube search bar, the virtual keyboard comes up automatically and my Logitech physical keyboard does not work, unless I first hit 'Back' on the remote which makes the virtual keyboard collapse and my physical keyboard get back to action. Is there a way to deactivate the virtual Android keyboard and make the physical keyboard the default option for inputing text?
Thanks in advance!
I am absolutely disgusted with this recording facility nonsense. Sony keep moving the date for the software download further into the future! What on earth are they playing at? Is it THAT DIFFICULT! ???!!!!???Get on with it!
Like Heckie, and I'm sure many others who have eventually given up, I would have preferred a fully functional 55" Bravia for its stunning picture quality.
Today we returned our 55X8509 to JL. We had a bit of a problem at first, the telephone operator who handled our call told us that we would be refunded and could then buy another TV, but we were sent to Tech Support who began by saying that the TV would be sent for repair. I insisted that we would not accept it back, noting that it was not a hardware fault but that the operating system is not (IMHO) fit for purpose.
Eventually they agreed to refund us. Sadly they didn't have anything in stock that we wanted, so we went to Richer Sounds, where we bought a Samsung UE55JU7000, and we're watching it now.
For me this is a great result, as the Sammy has some features, out of the box, which were missing from the Sony, namely the Bluetooth audio source profile, which allowed me to pair my BT BluebudsX without fuss.
It also has dual FreeSat and Freeview tuners, HDD recording, PAP, a superb combination of normal and wifi pointer remotes, and support for Skype (though we'll have to buy a ยฃ70 Samsung web camera, it won't work otherwise).
We've kept both our HT-XT1 sound bases, because in our view they're excellent, but one sad outcome is that the Sammy base sticks out over the edges of the HT-XT1, we'll have to buy a new TV stand with a shelf for the soundbase.
Thanks to Quinnicus and all who have tried to help.

Firmware upgraded. Lip sync no better. Have had a couple of discussions with JL.
Is there anything on the market that equals (or betters) the sound quality of the KD55x9305? I love the picture. I love the sound. I just want them together!
I have a new problem with the picture on my kd55x8509c. I was trying to watch a couple of vidoes last night, Contagion and The Counselor on Amazon Instant because I have Amazon Prime on free trial. In both movies I am experiencing what I think is colour bleed where faces are red or orange, bright light is dazzling and dark is very dark.
No way could you call it HD or upscaled UHD. I have watched plenty of other stuff recently that has been fine but I did install the new firmware upgrade on Friday and wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem.
UPDATE - I have fixed this and here is the resoution in case anyone else hits the problem. When you are in either the Netflix or Amazon app if you go to Action Menu on the remote you get access to some picture settings which are specific to video coming from apps. Mine was set to HDR Video, as soon as I set it to one of the others like Standard or Cinema Home the picture is fine. As i have watched movies through apps before and they have been fine I can only assume the firmware update I did on the 11th has set the mode to HDR Video.
