I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
Really hoping this is a stupid question.
I have the KD55X8509C, and am looking forward to the YouView update hopefully coming during the next week, if you believe the Sony timetable.
However, following a quick google, I found this link, and my TV is not specifically listed; just the 8505C.

I assume (hope!) this list is out of date?!
I don't think that it's out of date per se, it's probably just generic.
The last digit in the 850x number is just related to the 'Motionflow' spec, with (AFAIK) the '5' being the lowest spec and the '9' being the highest, as in 8505-8507-8509 I think that they're '800Hz', '900Hz', 1000Hz respectively.
A bit meaningless in the real world, as it doesn't signify actual refresh rates, just interpolated.
Happy to be corrected if this is wrong, as it's just from memory.
Phew! (replacement TV arriving tomorrow, so fingers crossed my other problems go away)
Kewl
Hope all goes well and you get to see the terrific picture quality at last. (Y)
Fingers crossed that the latest firmware starts to patch things up a bit too.
I've been without the featured apps section for some time, which meant no access to iPlayer. Thanks to this thread, I learned that the system app 'Sony Shelf' needed to be restarted, thanks guys!
My only remaining iaaue is that sometimes the sound on the homescreen, goes really tinny, i this a known issue?
Bring on the firmware updates Sony!
got a message from Sony when asking about Youview on their Android TVs, they said it will be available this Summer.... Why didn't they say this month? Delayed?
This summer that means never then, because there isn't going to be a summer, sneaky huh?
Seriously, September is the start of autumn in the UK, everybody knows that, so it must be within the next week.
They have changed the update availability table: http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/content/cnt-hn/prd-tvhc/more-features-coming-to-your-android-tv-soo...
Now most of the features are "Within this year"
they better not be leaving it until September to fix the 5.1 issues when the US has the fix already.
WHAT A SUPRISE!
Just as I predicted, end of the year, new TV's will be announced and they will just give up support on ours, leaving us with half sold functioning TV's/
WE HATE YOU SONY
