Xperia 1 III USB C to HDMI Cable problem

Bought Uni USB C to HDMI Cable [4K@60Hz High Refresh Rate] (this is second one, first a different brand) but when connected to TV it is not full screen. There's even space at each side. Picture is correct aspect ratio but in 16:9 should be full screen not with black band all around. With movies there should only be blank space above and below. Both cables purchased show same result. i-player and other TV channels are affected as is Netflix but only Amazon Prime shows correctly. Can't find any settings on phone or TV to correct this. Tried on 2 TV's - both LG with 1080p. Any guidance?

Hi @Rollsjohn,

Did you try to enable the phone on landscape mode and check again?

Phone is on auto rotate screen. Switching this off makes no difference. I tried setting 'Force Desktop mode' in developer settings as suggested by another forum member but I only get a blank blue screen with a back chevron and home dot at the bottom and a circle on left with dots in. Sound still comes through in this setting. Full spec of cable can be seen at https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075V5JK36/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1.

Have you tried this setup with another TV? check if it will be the same outcome or not.

Yes but both tv's are LG one oled other led both 1080p. The oled is also 4k. Result is same on both. Also found that some movies on Prime and Netflix show full screen some not. TV channels like BBC and itv never show full screen and are letterbox.

I have a suspicion that it could be related to the content itself, whether it supports full view on 4k screen or not?

As long as you have contents that can be displayed in full screen, i think this is the only reason 🤔

I'm wondering if it's something to do with intellectual rights. No-one seems to be able to give a solution either here in the forum, the cable manufacturers (tried 2 different ones) nor Sony themselves. I guess I'll have to live with it. Just wanted to be able to watch TV stations when abroad on holiday. As I've said some movies on streaming channels show full screen, some not. Letterbox view is so annoying.

Yeah, I agree and as long as you didn't find any workaround or a solution for it, then it's most probably related to the content itself.
