Xperia 1 III Headset being rejected

I keep getting this message saying the 'headset is not supported' despite me using it for around a year, in fact the day before I used it without problems and then I've kept it on my desk.

I've had a look online and don't really find anything that can resolve the issue

The headset works on other devices (other phone, my laptop ok).

I've tried wiggling the cable to try to find any faults but there are none and the connection to the jack is OK.

I have tried an older headset as well and it is fine, so I am confused why all of a sudden I have to bin my favorite headset.

I've restarted the phone

I've recently done a factory reset as I wanted to after the upgrade to Android 13.

I do not have installed any other apps related to sound

I have also cleaned the jack port.

It is an LG Quadbeat 3 in-ear basic headset, with the 3 standard connections on the jack connector (the circles around it).

Any ideas?

I think this is just a compatibility issue but, you're saying it worked fine before with the device?

When did that start to happen exactly?

Yes, it's always worked so I was more inclined to think it was a software issue. Maybe I can try to use it on safe mode and replicate the issue if you can play anything on safe mode.

I noticed it started happening possibly 4 or 5 days ago when I connected it, oddly enough I have been using it on the same week.

@Corruptedminds, it's really weird since it works fine with different devices and the same Xperia phone works with different headphones as well! For me it seems to be a compatibility issue between both devices.

Have you tried a software repair via Xperia Companion? It could help.

Yes I know. It's always worked on Android 11, Android 12 and also after upgrading to Android 13.

Edit: I may have found the cause. There appears to be a fault on the wire going to the left earpod as I managed to get it to work but the left side doesn't quite work - also on both phones. I haven't noticed this before as the issue may have been intermittent but now it's obvious. I will have to ditch them 😞

Thanks everyone.
