Settings app closes when trying to see battery usage

Recently I have encountered the problem that when I open Settings>Power Management>Battery Usage the Settings app closes with the message "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped". If I confirm with OK or just wait the Settings app will restart. Slightly_frowning_Face

I have tried the following activities to solve the problem but without success yet:

  • normal power off and restart: --> problem remains
  • de-installed recently installed apps: --> problem remains
  • booted into safe mode: --> problem remains
(in addition had to log in to some of the apps because their accounts had vanished and restore some shortcuts that went missing in folders on the homescreen.

What I have not tried yet is backup, reset to factory, restore backup.

Does anyone have an idea how to be able to see battery usage again without resorting to a factory reset?

Thank you alexdon.

Unfortunately that didn't do it either. The settings still close if I select battery usage.

There was another entry in the apps list just below the settings app, something like "settings memory" ("Einstellungsspeicher" in German).

Should I clear that entry's data as well?

Thanks for suggestions

In settings-apps-all,look for settings,it should be there, looking just like the normal settings app. There you can clear data for it.

Sorry alexdon if I didn't express myself correctly.

I did find the settings app where you pointed me to and cleared the data for it, but to no effect.

After the restart, the problem remains.

I was just wondering if i should clear the data for the neighbouring entry "settings memory" too.

Just for the record: It is a model D5503, Build 14.2.A.1.114, stock, not rooted.

Boot your phone in safe mode and see if the same occurs:

I did boot to safemode earlier but it didn't solve the problem.

It is gone now though, but I think your clue to clear the settings app's data plus a full recharge of the battery did the job.
Now the battery usage is displayed again. 🙂
