Fixing My Sony Xperia Z1 Compact (Sleep of Death)

This is for Sony Xperia  Z1 Compact users.

I just want to share this experience with my phone.

I was texting my friend when my phone suddenly died. Its battery was at 97%. I pressed the power button, but nothing happened. I tried the power button + volume up formula, and again, nothing happened. I did a hard reset by pushing the red small button beside the sim card holder. No good. I also tried the power button + volume up + the red small button. Still, my phone didn’t revive. No vibrations, no response, no blinking red LED light, and such.

I browsed the internet on how to bring back my Sony Xperia Z1 Compact into life. I did some, except for the battery thingy (‘cos I’m kinda afraid to remove the back cover of my phone) but to no avail, my phone was still in ‘coma’. Then an idea crossed my mind… what if I’ll combine those procedures?

Here are the procedures that I did:

  • I wrapped my phone in plastic, put it in the freezer, and left it for about 20 minutes (and more).
  • After I removed my phone in the freezer, I held the volume down for about 2 minutes, then as fast as I can, I pressed the power button + volume up.
  • I charged my phone using a wall charger (it should be a SONY CHARGER).

After I charged my phone, I noticed that a faint red LED light was blinking. I left my phone charging for an hour. After that, I tried to open my phone by pressing power button + volume up. It vibrated 3 times, but my phone didn’t wake up (I did this while my charger was still connected to my phone). I left it again charging for another hour. But then, my phone still didn’t wake up. My cousin told me that it was the ‘red light of death’. I just left it charging until the next morning.

I tried reviving my phone again by the same formula, power button + volume up + the red small button. Still, nothing happened (I started losing my hope already and I almost asked mama for money for its repair).

I removed my charger. At this time, I repeated the procedures. I told myself that if my phone still won’t wake up, I’m going to send it in the service for repair.

  • I wrapped my phone in plastic, put it in the freezer, and left it for about 45 minutes.
  • After I removed my phone in the freezer, I held the volume down for about 2 minutes, then as fast as I can, I pressed the power button + volume up.
  • In addition to the procedures, I buried my phone in a tupperware of uncooked rice. I left it there until late afternoon.
  • I did the power button + volume up + the red small button.
  • I charged it via wall charger.

And hooray! My phone charged till it was in its full battery condition. I didn’t remove the back cover, nor did a PC connection thingy. And… I saved myself from my mama’s ‘homily’ ‘cos I didn’t need the money anymore for my phone’s ‘surgery’.

I hope that the Sony Company would care to look at these problems. Ever since my phone upgraded to Lollipop version, my battery drains so fast. So please… I love Sony products but I really hope that you improve them waaaaay better.

I hope this helps. Mwa! xoxo
