Back button not working while on call

Hi All,

The back button of my Xperia Z becomes non functional while i am on a call. The home button works though. Also on starting an app, lets say Whats App, i am not able to select my chat while on call. So the selection also becomes non functional. I have no problems whatsoever using these functionalities when i am not on call. I am using the latest firmware(10.3.1.A.0.244) provided by Sony for Xperia Z.

Has anyone else faced an issue like this?
Is there a solution already present?

Hi Suresh,

I finally caught the culprit today. Its the Smart Connect and the Smart Key(if installed) app. Disable the Smart Connect app(uninstall updates if required) and if you have installed the Smart Key app, uninstall it. Post that you shouldn't face this issue at all.

If you listen to music a lot and are used to change songs often with your headset you would want to install the Headset Button Controller app from the play store as an alternative to the Smart Key app. Try the free trial version, to check compatibility before you buy it.

Hi, suggest repairing phone software with PC Companion.

Be aware that this process will erase phone data completely, remember to backup.

Thanks. I've already used it, but it didn't solve my problem. I've also tried factory reset.

In that case, send phone to your local service centre to have it checked.

I had a problem of dead pixels with my camera and so i had given it to the service centre. They replaced my phone with a new phone. The issue is present in this phone as well. Can you check whether your phone has this issue or no?

It would be better for you to get the opinion from the service centre.

I suspect this might be happening because of some app running in the background.

Quite unlikely since you mentioned that problem still exists after software repair and factory reset.

Try to reboot in safe mode, and check if problem persist...

If not find out the third party app and uninstall it.

To boot Safe Mode Press power button > Press and hold Power Off you will get a pop up msg asking to boot in safe mode.

Re start your device to exit safe mode...
