Windows vista taskbar not working!!!!

Hi, ive recnetly bought a sony Vaio laptop, i am having problems with the taskbar at the bottom of the screen!for some reason sometimes it wont let you click on anything or open any of the windows you have open!?when you double click on an icon it just makes a 'ding' sound!? has anyone else had this problem or know how to resolve it????

Hi PEASEY and welcome.

It sounds like Windows Explorer is crashing. Next time it happens, press Alt+Ctrl+Del and open Task Manager, click on Processes and find Explorer.exe (if it is still there) and 'End Task'. On the File Menu choose New Task (Run) and type EXPLORER.EXE into the box and re-run it.

If that fixes it come back and we will have to think of something else.
