My sister bought her laptop at the same time as me 11 months ago and she's also having problems with hers!
A few weeks ago her laptop was giving messages that certain Windows files were missing and had problems like the sound would stop working and you had to reboot to get it back on. Eventually the laptop froze and went into the Vaio Recovery options when rebooting the it. We managed to do a complete restore after saving all the data and it seemed ok the first time when we restarted it after this. Wrong!
An error message came again saying that there was a system file missing and it froze. We tried to do a system restore again in the Recovery section after rebooting but this time it said the OS was missing. It duly went back to John Lewis for repair and Sony sent it back with a new hard drive and reinstalled Vista HP software.
3 weeks on from this the laptop froze again and will only go into the Vaio Recovery options; Windows desktop wont load. We've tried checking the C drive for errors but this only gets 53% of the way through and then stops. AND the message that the Operating System is missing from C: Drive comes up again.
We're taking the laptop back to John Lewis again tomorrow but they say they're going to send it off again. My sister saved a lot of money to buy this brand new and now it's going back and forth for repair and she can't use it as she'd orginally intended.
Has anyone else had these types of problems and do you think she should now ask for a new replacement laptop as she paid £900 for what appears to be a faulty laptop?! BTW we have anti virus and firewall software on both our laptops so I don't think it's a virus.
Thank you.
