VGC-V3S Vertical Lines during TV Mode

Hi all

As I am new to the club I would be greatful if someone could explain to me on how to advance through the pages in the digital home section without having to press the next button. Last night I managed to scan through the first 100 pages and would like to start again from there.

I am looking for information for a problem I have with my VGC-V3S when watching TV, the screen intermitantly splits into vertical lines, like vertical blinds but I can still see the picture and movement of the program. If I put the system on standby and the restart the system all is fine.

Contacted Sony and had no success, any help appreciated

EddieWoolf.

Hi Eddie and welcome to Club Vaio.

I don't think you can go to 'page 100'. If you can I would be interested to know how. The 'SEARCH' function is sick at the moment as well.

All you can do is to go to 'My Profile', click on 'Change My Information' and increase the 'Posts per Page' to the maximum of 50. You can then advance a litle faster through the threads.

As far as I can recall, no-one has had your exact problem and my immediate suspicion would be the TV Card starting to fail because the problem does not exist when the video signal is from any other source. However, it is worth checking that all updates for your model have been installed and in addition, it may be worth reinstalling or upgrading the graphics driver and checking the video settings in the nVidia Control Panel.

Hi Blencogo
Thanks for responding so promptly, as you said the TV card sounds suspect, I was advised by Sony to do everything you mentioned and I complied but the fault is so intermittant that I cannot track down the source of the problem.
Funny enough, I have not run the system on computer mode only, think that this will be my next cource of action.
As the system was purchased from a relitive who rearly used it I thought that the problem may have occured during transporation. I take it that the TV card is a removable part? I have also read your articles on the graphics chip so that rules out that part of the system.
I will try the system on computer mode only and see how that runs, if you have any more suggestions it would be appreciated.
As a point of interest, how difficult is it to replace the TV card if possIble and would the system have to go back to Sony for this repair?

Regards
Ed

Hi Ed,

Good luck with that!

I don't have a V-Series but you may find this guide on taking a V2M apart written by Exinferis useful: -

Another thought occurs to me. You may prefer to buy a USB TV Tuner as this will give you access to digital DVB Freeview channels. They are quite cheap these days and will save you a lot of grief. Something like this would do: -

Hi Blencogo
Soory for not replying sooner, was messing about with a Hauppauge WinTv-PVR-USB tuner that I had from my previous system and you guessed it no luck. The siginal produced from this tuner does not fill the Vaio's screen, got two broad black bands down each side of the screen.

I would take the bull by the horns and repalce the Vaio's TV card but where do you purchase a replacment, don't think Sony would Supply, any Ideas.

No problem with dismanteling the system as I managed to source a service manual from abroad, tryed to send a copy to let you see it but file to large for forum.

It could be simply a fan needs clearing out, as it's not doing it's job and overheating the TV card.

Hi Ed,

I have the same problem and have only been able to rectify by putting on standby and starting again. My PC has been new and regularly used both as TV and PC and the problem has only started occurring recently. I will be interested to learn if installing a new TV card solves the problem.
