Vaio VGN-SZ1HP/B keeps turning itself on!

Hi,

First post, and i am all out of ideas on how to solve this one...

I have had my vaio for some time, but the laptop keeps turning itself on after i asked it to shutdown.

So, I would select shutdown from the start menu 'shutdown computer', and hit 'turn off'....

It would shut down, and then just spring back into life.....! Perhaps a mind of its own.

The only way to shut it down fully is to hold down the power button - this works. however this feature is really annoying and i would liek to fix it

Nothing in the bios EG: wake on lan etc.

Strange - anyone with any ideas...?

Thanks

Sheriff

Hi sheriff1972 and welcome to Club Vaio.

We have had this problem before but I do not recall a solution.

Past discussions have revolved around Wake on LAN and making sure both the network adapter and the wireless adapter are not remaining active. Generally though it is thought to be unlikely to be an external stimulus as most of these features are disabled in the BIOS if the Vaio is shut down. You are sure it is shutting down and not going into hibernate or standby?

Other things to look at are internal update programs like TVTV which try to download an EPG.

Does this happen every time you try to shutdown or is it intermittent? See what is in your Startup folder or loads automatically on boot. One of these programs may be stopping shutdown. Turn off any Toolbars that load automatically.

Sorry I can't help but I hope someone else here has had this problem and can contribute.
