Vaio - FZ31Z - unfit for use?

Dear Sony,
My new purchase remains unfit for use & stuck under a chair.
Why? because this rubbish device will not do what it should.
Why? because it will not run Excel properly.
Why? because the sound volume remains low - even using Sony ear phones.
Why? because the battery life is useless.
Why? because Vista wants new vista compatible flash drives.
Why? because I have to watch DVD's with a flashing green line below them.
Why? because Sony support can not fix anything & automaticly close ongoing cases.

I could continue, but you may have guessed - I'm not too impressed with the FZ31Z.
My worst ever purchase & will never buy another Sony product again.
Perhaps Sony would like to contact me?

The FZ31Z has a nice case & display - about all I can say!

Ok, so Sony wont reply.
From Wikipedia VAIO stands for;-
Video Audio Integrated Operation
My £1150 laptop does neither very well!
All Sony could suggest - plug the head phones into the head phone socket?
****!!!** rage!
No other alternative now but UK trading standards. It is absolutely not fit for purpose.
Never another Sony product!

Hi there steve. Sounds like youve got a bad apple from the bunch, ive got an FZ31Z and I am more than happy with it. I am able to play the most latest games and with the 8600M GS Directx 10 GPU I get very decent frame rates with the graphics set to med-high. My sound is of great quality and is louder than my N95's stereo speakers which is quite a feat and I can play and burn bluerays and DVDs perfectly.

Ive never had any problems with vista asking for new drivers for the flash drives, sounds like youve done some sort of os re-install and not got the correct drivers or something. The only negative thing ive got to say is that mine had a slight whine from the fan/cpu which has recently stopped by itself.

Id consider taking your laptop back and buying another one, you'll see the difference once youve got one that can run excel properly lol.

My previous laptop was an vaio VGN-FS215Z and had served me well and my 5 year old desktop vaio RZ422P is still going strong after a ram upgrade. I think you had a spot of bad luck, good luck, hope this helped!

Guys, thanks for the advice.
Sony were kind enough to pick up on my problems & have called me.

We have an ongoing case which hopefully can resolved.

Downloading the latest InterVideo BD software 3/6/08 has improved things slightly.....
I can now watch a DVD without a flashing green line BUT occasionally now the video image center of screen suffers from distortion. I can not reproduce this at will, it just happens from time to time:-(
Whenever this happens, if I switch back to Windows media player, the video is fine?
Sadly with Windows media player the volume is too low to watch & enjoy the DVD.

Sony have quite rightly pointed out "low" volume levels are unquantifiable.
Because of this, i will try to arrange an appointment at a local Sony center to compare the machines volume.

All that I want is a laptop which operates correctly.
