Vaio and camera 1080

I used to be able to transfer pictures from my camera to my lap top automatically, now for somereason I am no longer able to transfer.

How are you trying to transfer - by USB or by iLink?

What program do you usually use?
What do you usually do to transfer pictures automatically?
How long ago did it work properly?

Used to just plug in USB and I was asked to transfer pictures....now I keep getting a message that there is no programme assigned to do so but I don t know what programme or what to assign (clear??...may be not!!)

It worked properly for the last over one year until two days ago...now everytime I plug my camera into the vaio I get an icon saying "safely remore hardware"....I am not sure but I think it is something to do with memory stick??!
