Hi there
Pioneer are correct with what they say about the signal for HDMI
You do not say what model Vaio you have, does it have a Digital Audio output that you can connect to an audio system because if your audio output from the Vaio is DTS or Dolby Digital the TV will not output this audio if it is sent through HDMI.
If you play a CD on the Vaio do you get audio as this is usually 2 channel PCM, also when you say no audio is this from Media Centre or Winows
Are you running XP or Vista?

Hi Chris
Thanks for the reply, The model is XL-302, I have been using this with a small 19 inch HD ready flat screen for 12 months with HDMI conection no problem.
I replaced the screen with the Pioneer this week using the same HDMI cable but no sound.
I tuned the Pioneer in with the ariel and it worked fine with the speakers.
I tried the Pioneer with a DVD player using HDMI lead and it worked fine.
So I think the Pioneer is not reading the audio in the HDMI from the XL-302

Hi
OK I see what you are saying, have you looked at the spec for your TV as my Sony TV states that audio input through HDMI is only 2 channel PCM stereo.
Anyway do you have the sound on your XL302 set to output through HDMI?
Below I have listed the sound settings on my XL302, you will see I have selected both HDMI & SPDIF. These settings apply to the latest audio driver but the original driver settings were basically the same.

My XL302 is connected to my TV using HDMI & also to my Sony audio unit by digital optical, which I have to use for Dolby Digital or DTS output from the XL302.

In Control Panel, Sounds
Playback Tab
Select Digital Output Device, Properties, Select Supported Format Tab & check DTS Audio, Dolby Digital & Microsoft WMA Pro Audio & sample rates of 44.1, 48.0, 96.0 & 192.0.
Level Tab - Ensure Digital Output Device is not muted
Output Channel Tab - For HDMI & SPDIF
Effects Tab - Leave at default
Advanced Tab - Select 2 channel 16 bit 48000Hz (DVD quality) & select both under Exclusive Mode

These settings work for me, I hope they are of help to you

Good Luck

Hi there
Have you checked that you have selected HDMI on the output channel tab & that the digital output device is not muted on the Level Tab.
Does this problem only happen in Media Centre & if so have you run the Media Centre setup & told it you are using HDMI
Do you get normal Windows sounds
If you double click your sound icon is it showing volume is not muted
I assume your TV sound is OK with TV programs, does it have a menu for switching sound on or off from HDMI
Do you have a seperate audio system that you can connect with digital out from the XL302
I hope one of the above helps

Hi Chris
All the settings are o.k there is no sound in Windows or Media center
I have been out and brought a Yamaha RX-V3800 today
When I connect the hdmi lead from my XL-302 to any of the 4 inputs it starts to boot up the Microsoft logo comes on and then it crashes stating a fatal error has occured and is shutting down, I cant beleive it !
I have replaced the hdmi leads and still the same.

Hi there
Now I am running out of ideas but I looked at the spec of your Yamaha & it certanly seems impressive, I assume it has a SPDIF input & does your Pioneer have two HDMI inputs? If so what happens if you connect the XL to the Pioneer via HDMI & to the Yamaha using optical (purely for audio) then conect your Yamaha to the Pioneer using HDMI (so as you can access the menus on the Yamaha). This way the XL will be outputting video to the TV & audio to the Yamaha.
Is the Yamaha connected to speakers?
I can only think that the XL crashed when connected to the Yamaha because there are some HDMI settings on the Yamaha that the XL does not like.
What happens if you connect your original 19 inch display to the HDMI output of your Yamaha? does the XL still crash?
