Useless Sony batteries

The battery on my Vaio notebook now lasts five minutes and while still showing 82% unused crashes even before the recorded announcement of low battery is completed. Is there any way of reviving batteries?

Hello everyone,

I read an article on notebook battery life("SVM" french magazine March 2004). They said every nobetook battery have 2 year to live.
Theire advert is :

Buy quickly as possible a new battery because later Sony battery price will be more expensive because our notebook will be older.

Sony, could you comfirm this information ?

Thank you

antoine

Antoine,

I thought I would reply to you here rather than PM, as I think it's important everyone seens my response.

All batteries are different, so this 2 years business from SVM magazine is a bit exagerated. I would say that's the AVERAGE, but some notebook batteries have lasted >5yrs. I do agree with SVM that buying a battery might be a sound investiment for the future, and you should consider it if you have spare cash.

Interesting to learn of other people's battery problems. My Vaio has deciced to stop charging altogether, although it still works on mains. I asked Sony what I should do - answer "buy another battery" - obvious really. I now have two batteries that won't charge !! Anyone got any bright idea's ( other than buy an abacus) how to get the damn thing to charge ?? - IAN

You may have some problems with your charging device IN your laptop, but before sending back your vaio to sony, check these quind of things:

- What does your vaio show about your battery? 0% charged? or 100% ???
- Is the charging Led "on", when trying to charge the battery?
- Are the battery/ charger contactors "Clean" (must be checked on the old battery), you may have dust, oxydation...

Just browsing through.. i dontknow if anyone will answer to that or if Tarik is still around...

i have the same problem with two batteries.
Mine shows 100% charging on both, and will die as soon as i get off the mains..

Charging LED is off, but then because the pc reports it being >85%, the manual says its normal to be off...

i have no idea, anyone help?

It's a long time since I have seen this thread, but it doesn't seem to be a common problem.

How old are the batteries?

well ,the reason i have a pcg-sr series one is for portability.

im a student and im the hospital library all the time. With all the textbooks, lugging a desktop in my back is not really recommended healthwise

thats why battery life is important, while im in lectures (instead of dozing), i could be able to surf or type my projects using the battery...
