Upgrade memory on VGX-XL201

Hello,

I recently buy a VGX-XL201 for a very attractive price.
I bought 4 stick of 1 GB in 5300 speed for upgrade the computer.
I see on this forum, I don´t remember where, that some of us use 4 GB on their VGX computer.
Is it true? How did you realise that?

I try some configuration to use my 4 GB of RAM but it won´t works. Here is the result:
2 x 1 GB => works fine !
3 X 1 GB => visible in the BIOS but Vista won´t start!
4 X 1 GB => computer won´t start, I can´t even go in the BIOS!

Is it possible or not to use 4 GB of RAM on the VGX-XL201? If yes, what am I suppose to do for work?

I don't know if this is your problem but worth a look.

thanks for your answer! I still have read this topic and it seems that is impossible to use 4 GB!
But I think that I see some user with 4 GB in their profile. So I hope they will read the post and help me!

Our "Bad"Windows is just able to reach 03MB, independently if you have 03 or 04 installed.

I'm not sure to understand what you want to tell me?
I know that all Operating System in 32 bits can only "see" 3GB and that I'm suppose to use the 64 bits version of Vista to see 4GB. Is that you want to tell me? I actually use Vista 64 bits on my other computer with 4 GB of RAM and it works fine!

What I see is that I can't access to BIOS with 4 stick of 1 GB because nothing start!
So is it possible to put 4 GB of RAM on a VGX like I think I see in a profil from a member?

according to Sony's XL201 specifications your Vaio is only upgradeable to a maximum 3 GB of RAM..

Thanks for your help! I have suposed that the maximum RAM was 3 GB because I can see it in the BIOS. You information confirm me that! The maximum is 3 GB but does it suppose to work with 3x1 GB or does I work only with 2x1 GB + 2x512 MB ?

The RAM that I purchased is "Super Talent" T667UB1GC 1GB DDR2-667 PC 5300 (Samsung 64MX8 CL5) => 4 sticks

Hi,

as Sony state you're XL201 only supports 3GB of RAM then I would leave the two 512 modules where they are and install two of your new modules in the empty slots..
