Ubuntu problems on VGN-NR32S

Hello all.

I've been trying to get Ubuntu up and running on my laptop with almost perfect results, I had an issue with the headphones not muting the main speakers when they were plugged in, but that was resolved with this guide which worked a treat.
My (hopefully) final problem, is that the brightness function keys do not work (Fn+F5/F6) - they show the on screen display for brightness up/down but they do not actually adjust the brightness at all. I tried following these instructions but had no joy at all.
Has anybody else with this or a similar laptop had any luck with this problem?

I had the same problem, and a french guy fixed the HAL script for me
Try the packeage in the following bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hotkey-setup/+bug/277589


If it doesn't work, try the bigger bug which officially cares a about geforece 8000 series:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hotkey-setup/+bug/95444
