System CD restore on PCV-RX402, have you tried it ?

Hi everyone,

My machine - a French PCV-RX402 - is now almost 4 years old and eventhough I've added RAM up to 1 Gb it's about as fast as a French snail...

I've been hunting for the 3 recovery CDs and am hesitating as it recommends to have a look at the user's manual before use, but the section is nowhere to be found :devil: in the U'sM...

Well if you have any info I would be most grateful.

# Back-Up and Restoration

Need to bring your VAIO back to it's original state (factory settings) ? This Step by Step guide will show you how to do so.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

* This procedure deletes ALL data stored on your hard disk drive.
* Backup all important data before going further.

Restore BIOS defaults:

1. Insert the recovery CD/DVD in the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive.
2. Start or restart your VAIO.
3. When you see the Sony logo, press F2 repeatedly to enter the BIOS.
4. Once in the BIOS, insert the first recovery CD in the CD-ROM drive.
5. Press F9 to restore the default values (F5 on VAIO desktops).
6. When asked to confirm, press ENTER.
7. Press F10 to save the configuration and exit the BIOS.
8. When asked to confirm, press ENTER again.
9. The VAIO restarts and boots on the recovery CD.

Start the recovery process:

1. The Sony logo should appear on the screen and the Recovery CD screen is displayed.
2. Click Next on the first screen.
3. Click Next again.
4. Select Option Recovery and click Next.
5. Select Recovery to originally shipped state and click Next.
6. The VAIO is ready to be recovered - Click Next and then Yes to begin.
7. Wait until the process is over.
8. During the recovery, you may be asked to insert the next recovery CD(s) and press the OK button, please do so.
9. When the procedure is finished, click OK.
10. Click Finish to restart the VAIO.
11. After the reboot, follow the on-screen instructions to configure Windows according to your needs.
