Sony Vaio VGC-V2M is Sh!te

What a useless piece of Cr^p, I've had to do a full recovery about 5 times now and now I have no TV tuner, I can't create a DVD backup disc set and the damn thing keeps crashing while playing Wolfenstein ET + others.

It's just a gloryfied typewriter and nothing more.

Anyone else suffering like this, if so has sony helped, I've had one reply off them so far which was useless. Still waiting for the second.

I hope they read this, this PC should be good but it's not. If I could get everything working properly again I would sell the damn thing but I can't while it's like this.

I've tried every driver for every device to cure the problems, all to no avail. Anyone know how to revert the BIOS to the original, I think the BIOS upgrade could have been when all the problems started.

I'm going mad with this thing, please help.

Mart.:smileycry:

i'm glad to see that i'm not the only one to have problems with this pc!
for the bios, if you use, everest you will find the website of the manufacturer of the bios, maybe you could find what you want overthere.

but, sony's e-support did help you?
because i'm waiting for them, and i'm afraid not to have the help i'm need.
what can we do?
is the reinstallation of all the system exludes all the problems?
because i have many problems with drivers i think, but i don't know them, which cause blue screnn of death: stop : 0x00000000A

when i use vaio zone, this screen appears!
it's boring, no tv, no dvd....

thanks for your help!

You cannot 'unflash' hardware, and I wouldn't recommend trying to revert the BIOS with OEM drivers or similar. If you upgraded using Sony's own BIOS flash upgrade you will be covered within their warranty for problems it may have caused. That will not apply for other BIOS upgrades.

You can flash an older BIOS on any system to revert to the original, however sony seem to have used there own BIOS flash util and I can't find the original anywhere.

Warranty I'm not worried about, I'd just like the useless thing working properly.

It's a shame really cus they're a really smart looking machine and would be perfect if they worked properly.

I will keep trying and report back if I manage to find a solution.

You will NOT find the original BIOS anywhere as that is by design.

You see what has happened here is Sony have a corporate licence with Phoenix and Award Software Inc so that means Sony can modify the BIOS in any way they see fit, and in typical Sony style (no pun intended there!) they protect us from outselves by removing all of the "dangerous" by useful tools from CMOS setup.

This means that unless Sony release a new BIOS image, you will not be able to update your BIOS, and no "Original" versions compatible with your system could be found anywhere.

All of the Flash Utilities are part of Phoenix BIOS WinPhlash, and will be distributed on VAIO-Link if the update applies to your computer.

If you want to revert to the original system BIOS, you have to contact Sony VAIO-Link and have them take it in and re-flash the image back onto the PC.

Good luck, and hopefully Sony will get it sorted, although they are not the fastest manufacturer to speak to people!

Thanks Jamesmold

I know sony won't be very good, they are slow on the uptake that's for sure.

I will approach the local sony centre and see what they say.

Hi Mart,

Sounds a bad deal to me.
Definately ask Sony about it, tell them you followed the guide to the letter and it's cause damage, they'll probably replace the part for you

I've had a reply from sony, they're suggesting it might need a repair job done and someone will phone me.

I find this dubious as I think it is purely software related but I will see what they say, if they fix it for nothing then I'm not complaining. I think it's still in warranty so hopefully it's covered.

I'll keep you all posted.

cheers

OK It did

Just got my Vaio back from Sony repair and it's broken, yep some idiot dropped it by the look of it and broke the rear case.

Only been waiting a month for it to be returned and when it does it's no bl**dy good.

Am I P!$$£d off with Sony right now.

Geeeeeesssssssseeeee

I'm going to ask for a new replacement cus this is now bust and who knows what internal damage has been done.
