Recovery Discs???

:slight_frown: Can any one help?
I have just bought a VGN - NR21J/S laptop and don't seem to have VIAO Recovery Centre when clicking Start, All Programmes, and then supposed to be VAIO Recovery Centre. How do I make recovery discs without this? I am confused, and want to get going but know I have to make recovery discs first??? If it's not there, where is it???
PLEASE can any one help?
Many thanks

Hi Tonet65 and welcome to Club Vaio.

You are correct, you should be able to access the VAIO Recovery Centre as you say by Start -> All Programs -> Vaio Recovery Centre -> Vaio Recovery Centre

Are you in South Africa? I am unsure who you should contact there - perhaps the shop where you bought the Vaio.

I expect the advice will be to carry out a Full Recovery from the Hidden Recovery Partition on your hard drive. Connect your Vaio to the mains adapter, shut down and restart your Vaio. When you see the first Vaio Logo screen, tap F10 repeatedly. This should start a full Recovery of the system and may take some time - do not interrupt the recovery.

You can download the Recovery Guide for your model from here: -

Hi Tonet65,

can you find the Vaio recovery centre in C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Recovery centre.?

Also have you tried searching your HDD for the application..

I find it absolutely ridiculous that, in the past two years or so, the onus is on the consumer to "make their own" recovery discs when it would cost them virtually nothing to simply include them in the box. So many people have problems in creating them and with them spanning 3 DVD’s these days there are bound to be problems. Then you have the warnings such as “only use quality discs” etc it’s a joke.
Operating system recovery discs should be included with bloatware on a separate disc so you have the choice of whether you want a pain vanilla system or the full package. I made over 10 coasters trying to create HP backup discs in the past and it’s simply not fair for the customer to burden the responsibility of such an important process. On a final point, Burnt DVD’s are nowhere near as durable as a manufactured version so the slightest scratch and that’s it with no possibility of burning a second set.
Sorry about the moan but I grow weary of people stating they can’t burn discs that should have been provided in the first place.

I agree wholeheartedly. It's a penny-pinching move which saves SONY a dollar on each laptop they sell. If you think of all the laptops they sell each year, these dollars will add up to a tidy sum. It's disgusting that they rip the consumer off in this way. I mean, I created my discs when I purchased my VAIO but I have no idea if they'll work or not should I ever need them!
