Please Help! No video output from Sony XL100

Have had Sony XL100 for 2 years with Vista Ultimate on it. Now, while the system seems to boot up ok, I have no video output at all.

I've tried HDMI, S-video and AV cables all to no avail. I've tried pressing F10 during boot up, putting the vista disks in, putting the recovery disks in, all with nothing on screen! I don't know whether this is something that has happened after a windows update, or what. Machine out of warranty and Sony want £120 just to have a look at it. Any suggestions greatfully received,

Thanks,

Rick

Welcome Rick.

Do you get no video at all? What about when you first boot? Do you see the Vaio logo screen?

If you do see the bootscreen and then it goes black when Windows loads, it is probably a corrupt graphics driver. Open in Safe Mode and reinstall the driver.

If not then it is looking like a faulty graphics card. I would open up the XL 100 and check the graphics card is firmly inserted in its slot and there are no loose connections.

If you go to this link it will show how to remove the graphics card (held in by a single screw.

Try removing and re-seating the nVidia Graphics Card and see if that works. If not then you may have to take it to a repairer or replace the card yourself.

Unfortunately, I am not sure what state the XL 100 is in if you have tried to run a recovery from the Recovery Discs and the hard disc using F10. However, you should always see the boot screen and if Windows does not load, you may have to recover again using F10.
